Thanks to Gioia Benedetti's careful philological work, a short, narrative and hitherto unknown text brings back the voice of one of the most original and brilliant Italian critics of the 20th century. After the trip to Brazil in his youth, in his single finished novel set in Rio de Janeiro in the Fifties, Notti di Copacabana, Ruggero Jacobbi conveyed not only the climate and atmosphere of a distant and in some ways mythical world such as Brazil, but also a significant track of the readings, meetings and influences of the great texts of Portuguese and South American literature, at the time mostly unknown in Italy. Jacobbi had an extraordinary talent at catching and interpreting the changes in the narrative code, and in this book, the author offers an incredibly intriguing experimental story with alternating voices and characters and intertwining events, contributing to the creation of a suspenseful atmosphere.

In this book, Francesca Nencioni uses semantics to reconstruct, with skill and intelligence, the 'characters' and 'specimens' of the Hermetic prose (Parronchi, I giorni sensibili; Luzi, Biografia e Ebe; Bigongiari, La donna miriade; Gatto, La sposa bambina), proposing a new way of reading the works which marked the early Hermetic period in Florence. Using stylistic tools, analysis of language, rhythm and melody, and a comparative perspective shifting continuously among the genres, the author gives new semantics to the category of absence (through female metamorphosis, transience and death), and explores the coordinates of time (the hours of day, the movements of stars and planets, the alternation of seasons) and space (the four elements, the beloved places and the real landscapes), then combines synchronic investigation with an excursus on the study of semantic variables in the two editions of Biografia e Ebe and La sposa bambina.

The volume offers a new perspective for the study of the mendicant orders between the 13th and 14th centuries through the example of the Servites in central and northern Italy. The study, despite considering a so-called 'minor' order, has made it possible to analyse two essential issues for Western Europe's late medieval history. The first concerns the transformations of religiosity between the 13th and 14th which saw the prominence of new social classes and institutions. The second concerns the urban expansion, the economic growth and the political-institutional and socio-cultural changes that characterised the cities of the time. The Servites were expression and later fine interpreters of these processes, becoming actors who were anything but marginal in the social context of late medieval Italy.

It was 1987 when Alma Sabatini, following the request of the National Commission for Equality and equal Opportunities between women and men, established by the Presidency of the Council of Ministries, published The indications for a non-sexist use of the Italian language. Over thirty years after that publication, the topic has kept its relevance intact, becoming the keystone for reading and interpreting gender issues and policies. Starting from this context, the universities of Florence and Udine proposed a reflection on the relationship between gender and language, bringing the topic back to the center of the scientific debate, but free from media aspects which it often appears to be imbued with in public opinion and that, sometimes, end up undermining the true value of the relationship.

The archaeology of the graphic novel does not shed light on the historical origins of the comic book; on the contrary, it tries to discover the conceptual genesis of this narrative form. If the research methodology is archaeological, in fact, the theoretical approach is the same as neuro-narratology, in the light of which four important stages are suggested. These stages define the comic novel as a "natural" literary genre, a mimesis of the process transposing reality into images and constituting the basis of thought. The figure of Rodolphe Töpffer is not excluded from this process. Thanks to his theories and his work, he leads us to hypothesize that the comic book was more "novelistic" at its origin than it is in its current forms: the path to the novel, then, would not be so much of an evolution, but rather a return to the origins.
